Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Dental veneers are porcelain or resin-composite shells that are permanently bonded to the visible front surface of your teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers can be used to fix a single broken or chipped tooth, but many people get six to eight veneers across the front of their mouth to create a symmetrical smile of teeth that are uniform color and shape.

Veneers are custom-made for each individual to reach your cosmetic goals and ensure the perfect fit. Your provider discusses your aesthetic goals and helps match the perfect shade and shape veneers to meet your expectations. Find out if veneers can give you the smile you’ve dreamed of by calling or scheduling an appointment online.

What cosmetic problems can veneers fix?

Veneers give you a brighter, whiter smile, while offering improvement for the following undesirable appearances:

  • Broken or chipped teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Small teeth
  • Unusual shaped teeth
  • Uneven coloring
  • Severe yellowing or discoloration that can’t be fixed with whitening

If you are not happy with the appearance of your teeth, give Elegant Smiles a call or use the convenient online scheduling tool to book an appointment and find out if veneers can improve your smile.

Which type of veneer do I need?

Both types of veneers offer cosmetic benefits while preserving healthy teeth. Choosing which type depends on how long you want the results to last as well as other factors. There are two types of veneers:

Composite veneers

Composite veneers are made on-site by the dentist and applied to your teeth during a single appointment. Several veneers can be applied to your teeth during the same visit. Composite veneers are less expensive than porcelain and can easily be repaired if needed.

Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are made in a laboratory and cemented to your tooth by the dentist. If you’re getting porcelain veneers you will need at least two appointments. At the first appointment, the dentist will take impressions of your teeth so the veneers can be made in the lab. Your veneers are applied to your teeth during the second appointment.

Your provider helps determine which veneer is best for your needs while taking your budget, time, and goals into consideration.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers are a long-term solution, with traditional porcelain veneers lasting between 10 and 15 years and no-prep veneers lasting between 5 and 7 years. Proper care of your veneers can extend their lifespan, including:

  • Not chewing on hard objects like ice, fingernails, or pens
  • Not using teeth to open packages
  • Not chewing with your front teeth
  • Wearing a splint or retainer at night to prevent clenching and teeth grinding
  • Wearing a mouthguard when playing sports
